Project in Progress: Hamad International Airport Terminal Expansion, Doha, Qatar

We are delighted to have engaged with our client DSP DOHA in Qatar to supply our globally renowned AshGrid spacer system for a uniquely complex and visually stunning roof design.

As part of preparations for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the second expansion phase at Hamad International Airport (DOH) will feature a spectacular 10,000m2 indoor tropical garden in a central concourse and a 268m2 water feature. The additional infrastructure will also increase the airport’s capacity to more than 53 million passengers annually by 2022.

The ceiling of the tropical garden will be designed with a long-span 85m grid shell roof. The column-free roof structure will integrate performance glass for controlling and filtering the light required by the trees.

Hamad International Airport’s terminal expansion has been designed to integrate the new facilities with the existing three-storey terminal building.

In use around the globe, AshGrid was the first spacer system for built-up metal roofing and cladding developed for the building envelope market. It has maintained its market leading position since its launch through a continued programme of research and innovative development.
