Ash & Lacy announce new strategic partnership with Saint-Gobain in South Africa

Ash & Lacy South Africa are pleased to announce the appointment of Saint-Gobain Construction Products South Africa as the official distributor of the AshgridTM Spacer system in South Africa.

Ash & Lacy South Africa will continue to maintain an office in Cape Town, South Africa, providing technical support and consultation on Ash & Lacy Building Systems envelope solutions. Ash & Lacy South Africa also remains fully committed to contributing to local building standards by maintaining active memberships and involvement with both Thermal Insulation Products & Systems Association SA (TIPSASA) and The Southern African Metal Cladding and Roofing Association (SAMCRA).

This synergy between Ash and Lacy Building Systems & Saint-Gobain draws on a great depth of experience and expertise, a broad range of insulation products, and a well-established infrastructure providing exciting new opportunities in delivering a range of energy-efficient system solutions to the South African market.

This exciting new partnership between two market leading companies follows the successful launch of the Ashgrid roofing system to the South African Construction market in 2014. Ashgrid represents a revolutionary approach to over-roofing that delivers significant thermal benefits in addition to providing a safe and durable long-term solution for refurbishment projects. Since 2014, Ashgrid has become the roofing system of choice for many major infrastructure projects across the country, supplying approximately 300,000 linear metres to notable clients including: BMW, Nissan, Pick ‘n Pay, Growthpoint Properties, MSC Shipping, and from now on, the systems will be exclusively distributed by Saint-Gobain’s team of experts.

Saint-Gobain designs, manufactures and distributes materials and solutions for the construction, healthcare and other industrial application markets. Developed through a continuous innovation process, they can be found everywhere in our living places and daily life, providing wellbeing, performance and safety, while addressing the challenges of sustainable construction, resource efficiency and the fight against climate change.

This strategy of responsible growth is guided by the Saint-Gobain purpose, “MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER HOME”, which responds to the shared ambition of all the women and men in the Group to act every day to make the world a more beautiful and sustainable place to live in.

Damien Peyrelongue – Managing Director: Saint-Gobain Gyproc and Isover said “Being the sole distributor of the Ash & Lacy high performance spacer system is totally aligned with Isover’s strategy to provide systems and solutions to our markets, while at the same time improving performance and ease of installation. With our national distribution footprint, we are excited to bring these innovative solutions closer to our customers.”

The name Ash & Lacy has been synonymous with product innovation and high standards of engineering for over 140 years. From very humble beginnings, Ash and Lacy has grown into a company with a group annual turnover in excess of £50 million, now employing over 350 staff across 6 office locations in the UK.

For the Construction sector, Ash & Lacy manufactures a diverse range of engineered facade and roofing systems, complemented by a comprehensive range of fasteners, load bearing components and accessories. In-house testing facilities, as well as design and engineering analysis capabilities ensure that all Ash & Lacy products are at the forefront of technical performance, and often exceed industry standards worldwide. Ash & Lacy’s expertise allowed for an in-depth thermal study to be carried out on various roof assemblies that were being used in the South African market. The study revealed numerous shortcomings in thermal design and led to the revision of SANS 10400XA which is due for release towards the latter part of 2021. The new revision makes spacer systems mandatory in the majority of building occupancy categories to prevent compression of bulk insulation.

Dion Marsh, Managing Director ALSA, said: “Saint-Gobain have been forerunners in South Africa campaigning tirelessly in pursuit of improved energy-efficient and environmentally friendly National Building Standards. This synergy between Ash and Lacy Building Systems & Saint-Gobain draws on a great depth of experience and expertise, a broad range of products, and a well-established infrastructure providing exciting new opportunities in delivering a range of engineered energy-efficient solutions to the South African market.”

Ash & Lacy South Africa would like to take this opportunity to thank its customers for their support over the past seven years and looks forward to providing them with continued technical support in the future.
