Welcome to the Ash & Lacy Testing & Certifications page.

Ever since its beginnings in 1864, Ash & Lacy has been committed to ensuring that its products carry proof of the highest quality and safety standards.

For the construction industry, Ash & Lacy products and systems are regularly tested by independent UKAS accredited organisations such as the Centre for Window & Cladding Technology (CWCT) and Exova Warringtonfire and Lucideon, and accredited by globally recognised bodies such as the British Board of Agrement. Through this continued investment in testing alongside innovation and product development, we strive to give our customers the peace of mind that Ash & Lacy products are not only compliant with the latest Building Regulations, but will also stand the test of time.

Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) Tests

The Centre for Window & Cladding Technology tests for external cladding systems demonstrate how well the cladding system will resist the typical weather challenges it will face by being located on the outside of the building by testing how resistant it is to water penetration, impacts from objects hurled at the cladding system and its resistance to the strain of wind. A Centre for Window and Cladding Technology member, Ash & Lacy has had many of its rainscreen façade systems subjected to these rigorous tests. See our results below:

CWCT Test Results: MechSlip

Mechanically-fixed brick slip cladding system. Tested by Technology Centre, VINCI Construction UK in Bedfordshire, May 2018:

  • Witnessed by a CWCT member.
  • Water tightness dynamic test: PASS. No water reached face of back wall.
  • Wind resistance – serviceability test: PASS. No visually discernible movement.
  • Wind resistance – safety test: PASS.
  • Soft body impact test: Designated as Class 1.
  • Hard body impact test: Designated as Class 1.

CWCT Test Results: NaturAL-X

Mechanically-fixed extruded brick slip cladding system. Tested by Technology Centre, VINCI Construction UK in Bedfordshire, May 2018:

  • Witnessed by a CWCT member.
  • Water tightness dynamic test: PASS. No water reached face of back wall.
  • Wind resistance – serviceability test: PASS. No visually discernible movement.
  • Wind resistance – safety test: PASS.
  • Soft body impact test: Designated as Class 1.
  • Hard body impact test: Designated as Class 1.

CWCT Test Results: VariAL-H

Hook-on Secret Fix metal cassette rainscreen system, tested by Wintech Engineering Ltd. In Telford, Shropshire, August 2017:

  • Witnessed by CWCT member.
  • Air leakage test: PASS. No areas of concentrated air leakage found.
  • Water penetration test: PASS. No water leakage observed.
  • Wind resistance – serviceability test: PASS. No evidence of any permanent deformation or damage to the system.
  • Repeat air leakage test: PASS. No areas of concentrated air leakage found.
  • Repeat water penetration test: PASS. No water leakage observed.

Exova Warringtonfire Fire Tests to EN 13501-1

Exova Warringtonfire are a UKAS accredited testing and certifying organisation who have tested various Ash & Lacy systems to the most rigorous fire testing standard available for systems which form part of the exterior of a building: BS EN 13501-1:2007+A1: 2009. Under the newest UK Building Regulations (amended in November 2018) any component which forms part of an external wall on a ‘relevant’ residential building must achieve either Euroclass A2-s1, d0 or Euroclass A1 to the classification standard EN 13501-1, or be classified A1 without testing according to Commission Decision 96/603/EC. All of Ash & Lacy’s tested systems have achieved Euroclass A2-s1, d0 or Euroclass A1 to EN 13501-1, as you can see below:

EN 13501-1 Fire Test Results: MechSlip – A1

  • Entire system classified A1 by Exova WarringtonFire.
  • Valid for A1-classified stone/mineral wool insulation of ≤340mm thickness.
  • Valid for cavity depth of 25-100mm.
  • Supporting systems: AxiAL AX1 & AX2 (6063T6 grade aluminium); AxiAL AXR1 & AXR2 (316 grade stainless steel).

EN 13501-1 Fire Test Results: NaturAL-X – A1

  • Entire system classified A1 by Exova WarringtonFire.
  • Valid for A1-classified stone/mineral wool insulation of ≤340mm thickness.
  • Valid for cavity depth of 25-100mm.
  • Supporting systems: AxiAL AX1 & AX2 (6063T6 grade aluminium); AxiAL AXR1 & AXR2 (316 grade stainless steel).

EN 13501-1 Fire Test Results: VariAL-H – Anodised/no finish: A1. PPC/ACM: A2-s1, d0

Hook-on Secret Fix metal cassette rainscreen system:

  • Anodised/no finish systems classified A1 by Exova WarringtonFire.
  • Powder coated aluminium systems and systems with Alucobond A2 ACM: Entire system tested and classified A2-s1, d0 by Exova WarringtonFire.

  • Valid for cavity depth of 25-100mm.

Concealed fix and secret fix metal cassette rainscreen systems:

  • Powder coated aluminium systems and systems with Alucobond A2 ACM: Entire system tested and classified A2-s1, d0 by Exova WarringtonFire.
  • Valid for A1-classified stone/mineral wool insulation of ≤340mm thickness.
  • Valid for cavity depth of 25-100mm.

Aluminium rainscreen support systems:

  • System material: 6063T6 grade aluminium.
  • Entire system classified A1 to EN 13501-1 by Exova Warringtonfire.
  • System tested with A1-classified stone wool mineral wool insulation of ≤340mm thickness applied.
  • Tested with all rainscreen façade systems shown above.
  • Cavity applied to AxiAL AX Series during these tests: 25-100mm.

EN 13501-1 Fire Test Results: AxiAL AXR1, AXR2, AXR3 and AXR4 – A1

Stainless steel rainscreen support systems:

  • System material: 316 grade stainless steel.
  • Entire system classified A1 to EN 13501-1 by Exova Warringtonfire.
  • System tested with A1-classified stone wool mineral wool insulation of ≤340mm thickness applied.
  • Tested with all rainscreen façade systems shown above.
  • Cavity applied to AxiAL AXR Series during these tests: 25-100mm.
  • Very low gross calorific potential.

British Board of Agrement (BBA) Certifications

If a building product carries a BBA certification, that means the BBA have assessed numerous tests and aspects of the product (such as impact tests, fire reaction tests, production procedures and quality, the installation guidance and documentation and how the product is installed on site, to name a few) before stating that they are satisfied the product is suitable for numerous construction applications (e.g. for use on high-rise residential blocks, low-rise residential building and other applications).
