Burnt Timber Leads Building Manager To Ashjack Solution
When a Surrey based Sports Centre required a new Club House, the Building Manager sought the expertise of Ash & Lacy Building Systems Ltd to provide the most suitable roofing solution. The Oaks Sports Centre based in Carshalton, Surrey has its name from the beautiful silver trees which line its 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses. This scenic landscape was disturbed three years ago when the 20 year old, flat timber roof caught fire and the original Club House burnt very quickly to the ground. The cause of the fire was never identified. Golfers temporarily used the six squash court facilities until the new Club House was built and opened earlier this year. Mark Burbridge, owner of Dumarc Building Services Ltd employed by The Oaks Sports Centre, specified a lightweight, pitched roof. He approached several roofing installers for recommendations and Ash & Lacy appeared the favourite. After a thorough consultation with Ash & Lacy, the BBA approved Ashjack system was chosen for its structural versatility and aesthetics. RoofTech Ltd was appointed to carry out the installation. Mark commented “Everyone’s feedback has been positive. The Ashjack system has suited our purpose. Its lightweight construction is much simpler, whilst reducing the amount of work needed for laying down the foundations. The aluminium frame is virtually impossible to damage. The 1200mm fixed centre frames create a much bigger loft area, compared to the previous 400mm loft space. A 80mm Kingspan composite tiled roof sheet was used to meet thermal requirements and also to create the aesthetic style similar to the original roof.” Sales Director, James Turner and Contracts Director, Vince Weller both from Rooftech Ltd were responsible for proposing the use of Kingspan KS1000RT panels to achieve the composite effect. Their forward thinking approach, combined with the suitability of the Ashjack system, provided the opportunity to increase insulation at roof level and alleviate the need for further internal work. The Ashjack system is an ideal alternative to timber roof trusses, its aluminium frame has a much longer life span than wood, there are virtually no maintenance costs and it retains resale value, whereas wood is prone to rotting and decay, which can decrease the value. A firewall can be accommodated to provide greater protection against the risk of fire. Furthermore, the aluminium Ashjack frame is able to withstand extreme temperatures and poor weather conditions, facilitated by the pitched roof which enables water run-off. Telephone : 0121 525 1444 |
