Ashfix fasteners from Ash & Lacy Building Systems have been used to secure Kingspan insulated panels on a new leisure and retail complex in Blackburn.

Peel Investments commissioned management contractor, Bovis Lend Lease, to undertake a £12m development project to extend the retail park in Blackburn by 100,000 sq. ft. The park is now the biggest in the region, covering 300,000 sq. ft, offering a range of retail and leisure entertainment.

The site features a ten screen VUE Cinema; a Bowlplex twenty four lane bowling alley; Pizza Hut; JJB Sports store swimming pool; Matalan; Staples and two restaurants. The Ashfix composite panel fixings were employed most extensively on the modern looking multiplex cinema.

Ash & Lacy supplied a range of coloured fasteners for the Blackburn project including Goosewing Grey, Hamlet and Sargasso Blue to match the external cladding and roofing finishes. The coloured heads are manufactured using UV stabilised glass reinforced nylon, moulded onto a stainless/carbon steel, hexagonally shaped for maximum grip and drive torque. The 304 grade austenitic steel is able to resist against deterioration caused by harsh atmospheric conditions and heavy handling caused by drilling and tapping. It provides long term durability and unrivalled performance.

A spokesperson from Northern Cladding Ltd, the company responsible for the installation, commented that Ash & Lacy were the chosen suppliers because “they provide a good service and the product quality is fine.”

The Ashfix fastener was developed in partnership with an ISO 9000 approved manufacturer, following strict testing procedures. Further testing, to DIN standards, is carried out at Ash & Lacy’s head offices in West Bromwich.

Commenting on the new park, MD of Peel Investments, James Whittaker, said “This is part of a larger expansion plan to increase business in the town centre by marketing retail parks. It will also help to encourage the night time trade in Blackburn.”
