Go-Ahead For Ashzip At Oxford Bus Depot
Five hundred square metres of Ashzip 400 aluminium standing seam roofing have been installed as part
of the development of an important new bus depot in Oxford.
The self-curved, Ashzip standing seam roofing system in 0.9mm plain mill, stucco-embossed aluminium was
installed to the front section of the new, purpose-built, larger bus depot. The sheets were roll formed
on-site to a maximum sheet length of twenty nine metres, and installed with a perforated liner to
provide the required acoustic performance.
The depot, situated just off the main Oxford ring road on Watlington Road in Cowley, was built for the
Oxford Bus Company, part of the Go-Ahead Group, to replace the ageing depot on the Cowley Road that had
served the local community since the 1920's.
The new depot offers vastly improved facilities for employees and also incorporates offices and workshops
for the Oxford Bus Company. The company will be running the depot as an all-in-one service centre for its
local activities, which include express coach, 'Park & Ride' and local bus services.
Alan Patrick of main contractor, G.W. Deeley says: "The architects specified a curved roof and Ashzip
was chosen because it fitted the bill perfectly and was more competitive than other options."
"The whole project took a year to complete and we experienced absolutely no hitches with the Ashzip
standing seam roofing system."
