May 2006

Building envelope solutions specialist Ash & Lacy has achieved an industry first following the announcement that the company's Ashzip standing seam roofing system has been approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA).

Ashzip is the first standing seam roofing system incorporating a full height halter to meet the new, more stringent BBA testing criteria, with both the Ashzip 300 and Ashzip 400 profile widths being covered under BBA certificate number 06/4301. The new testing procedures include a category to measure thermal expansion of the sheets under extremes of temperature - a requirement that other standing seam systems have yet to fully satisfy.

Since its launch in 2003, Ashzip has been widely specified throughout all sectors of the construction industry. With the introduction of the full height halter bracket in 2005, the system was enhanced to meet the changes to the Building Regulations which significantly reduced the amount of heat loss allowable through a roof structure. The new thermally efficient halter is available in three heights - 245mm, 295mm and 345mm - to offer U-values of 0.25, 0.20 and 0.16 W/m˛ respectively. This is achieved with a construction method which significantly reduces installation time through a single component fixed straight through to the purlin when used in conjunction with a standard liner profile.

The granting of the BBA approval follows BBA approval of Ash & Lacy's Ashjack over-roof conversion system in 2005 and is part of the company's ongoing commitment to securing third party certification of its product range.
