Ash & Lacy Building Systems have produced what they believe is the most comprehensive information resource within the industry to aid the successful specification and installation of spacer support systems for built-up metal roofing and cladding systems. The new Ashgrid brochure and CD-ROM U-value calculator, not only provide comprehensive information on an extensive range of roof and wall applications, but also tackle topical issues relating to system stability together with cost-effective firewall solutions that have been assessed by Warrington Fire Research. Reflecting the company's recently launched corporate identify, the brochure's easy to use format features the trademark typical application details.

The Ashgrid CD-ROM, which is included within the new brochure, will provide specifiers and contractors with an essential tool for the calculation of U-values to comply with Building Regulations. To calculate the U-value of a proposed system, the user simply selects the application from the menu i.e. roof, vertical or horizontal wall and the cladding manufacturer from the drop down lists, together with the type of insulation to be used. Then, by altering the depth of the system and the bracket and purlin centres, the overall U-value for the system can be calculated. Following the success of the first edition launched in 2001, the updated version also includes comprehensive load span tables to determine the load capacity of a system together with downloadable CAD files of construction and component drawings.

As part of Ash & Lacy's commitment to provide technologically advanced solutions, considerable investment in a state-of-the-art testing facility has been made at the company's West Bromwich head quarters. It was here that the testing procedures outlined in the brochure were undertaken to demonstrate the change in behaviour of spacer support brackets when load is applied and therefore the requirement to include sway brackets to create a stable roof construction. Individual components are also tested for various loading conditions including download, uplift, sway and pull out.

Developed by Ash & Lacy in 1988, Ashgrid was the first spacer support system for built-up metal roofing and cladding systems. Since its launch over 50 million metres have been installed and Ashgrid has maintained its market leading position through a continued programme of research and innovative development together with extensive site and laboratory testing procedures. Manufactured to the highest standards including BS EN ISO 9000 : 200, all Ashgrid components are produced to Ash & Lacy design and performance specifications following stringent quality control systems.
