Ash & Lacy Building Systems supplied approximately 1500 square metres of AshTech rainscreen cladding for a high quality mixed-use development formally 120-132 Chrisp Street in London’s prestigious, E14 Canary Wharf district.
Now known as Parkview Apartments, 122 Chrisp Street, London E14; the development ranges in height from five to fifteen storeys and comprises 66 residential apartments and ground-floor restaurant/café and retail units. The luxury apartment block is finished with a mix of brickwork, AshTech RSCFH35 horizontal rainscreen panels and external wall insulation.
The structure is built as an insitu reinforced concrete frame constructed on a confined site on piled foundations and incorporating a bolt-on balcony system. Approximately 1500 square metres of AshTech panels have been fitted in sunrise silver to the smooth curved frontal façade and flat rear façade (with matching curved parapet panels) and factory-formed cranked panels around the balcony returns. The development features a landscaped courtyard.
The design, by BUJ Architects, is a response to London Borough of Tower Hamlets’ (LBTH) long-held goal to create a piazza off Carmen Street, to the north of the site. The landscaped courtyard has been designed as an addition to the piazza, allowing easy pedestrian access across the site towards the proposed Langdon Park DLR (Docklands’ Light Railway) station and the pedestrian bridge to the northeast, creating a large open public area.
Repex Limited, skilled in the installation of external cladding systems is the specialist contractor carrying out the design, supply and installation on the project. Repex was responsible for specifying Ash & Lacy's AshTech rainscreen cladding system. Robert Togher, Commercial Manager of Repex Limited commented, “We selected AshTech for the project based on our good experiences of using it in the past. The curved elevations highlight the versatility of AshTech and we are very pleased with the visual impact this has made on the building."
The project is an integral part of upgrades to nearby major rail routes by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH), one of five London boroughs which have been designated host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
