Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 1:45AM 2500m² of AshTech Rainscreen Cladding panels have been employed to help transform the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline, Scotland.
The newly refurbished centre which is set to open late summer this year, will feature a new 3-storey car park completely clad in AshTech metallic silver, perforated Rainscreen panels with feature flying buttress column casings.
The huge £50m extension of Kingsgate Shopping centre, which is being managed and led by client and Main Contractor Mivan; is part of the regeneration scheme for Dunfermline city centre, creating a shopping centre which rivals those of Edinburgh and Livingston.
The project included the demolition of an existing bus station and multi-storey car park and the construction of over 160,000ft² retail space on two levels.
This is also coupled with the AshTech-clad 3-storey car park above the centre with over 700 spaces.
The panels were supplied to site presized and cut for ease of installation from Ash & Lacy's newly expanded Glasgow premises. The perforations in the rainscreen cladding ensure the car park remains ventilated; whilst allowing natural daylight in to illuminate the building.
Roofing contractor, Topek, were able to fix the panels in place in minimal time with little site disruption.
Iain McKinlay of Topek commented, We specified Ash & Lacy for the job as we have used them several times before in the past and have always been impressed with the quality and competitive prices of their products.
They also have a good local base, so panels could be supplied at short notice, as and when they were needed.'
The anchor store at the Shopping centre will be Debenhams, with several other retailers such as New Look and JJB Sports signing up to for shop space.
Kingsgate is set for completion on 8th August this year, when it will open its doors to its first customers.
