Ash & Lacy Building Systems have provided 4,000m² of AshZip for a retirement home in Ireland. The 35 bedroom home was built for retired nuns from the order of the Sisters of Mercy in Castlebar Co. Mayo, with the intention of providing the nuns with an independent space to live and reflect.
The materials were supplied through Ash & Lacy's Irish distributor Laydex Roofing Division.
The design, as specified by project architects, Taylor Architects, was for a circular roof, which added complexity to the development as every sheet required tapering to produce the spectacular 'donut' shape. Ash & Lacy's AshZip was chosen from a number of samples as the best possible solution to meet the architect's requirements & the short delivery period to meet the main contractors’ tight construction programme.
Ash & Lacy where able to offer a comprehensive technical specification and assistance with acoustic design and perimeter detailing.
Top Level Roofing was responsible for installing the AshZip and Tom Lavin, Director, commented, 'Ash & Lacy were very, very helpful and provided us with a brilliant service. We had never used AshZip before but will certainly be using it again in future. The AshZip sheets were supplied to site in a standard 0.9mm embossed aluminium finish, pre-tapered and ready for installation.
The Religious Order of the Sisters of Mercy is an order of Catholic women founded by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, in 1831. They are renowned for their mission to serve and care for the poor, sick and needy and many sisters engage in teaching, medical care, and community programs to fulfill this.
The new Sisters of Mercy living space in Co. Mayo is now complete and provides retired Sisters with a striking and attractive home where they can live securely and independently.
