Bletchley Leisure Centre - Swimming Pool Roof

"Milton Keynes Council in conjunction with their “Building a Better Bletchley” regeneration scheme, recently replaced the 1970’s swimming pool and sports centre with a current state of the art leisure centre that scooped first prize in the BREEAM Bespoke category at Ecobuild March 2010.

"In conjunction with their architects “Holder Mathias Architects” and Builders “SDC Construction of Bedford” they designed the new leisure centre, including a multipurpose sports hall, dance studio, indoor bowls hall and a new swimming pool which formed the main feature of the building being adjacent to main entrance and plaza area.

"As the exposed roof was a main feature of the new centre, this was designed on a mono pitch fall, tapering along the length of the building, with also a fall from one side of the roof to the other. It was decided that the best option for the construction of the roof would be for an insulated acoustic standing seam system.

"The Ash and Lacy AshZip™ stucco embossed standing seam roof system was chosen not only on the quality and cost effectiveness, but also due to the complete technical support offer from the confirmation of the original specification of works, undertaking of u-value calculations, also in the assistance in preparation of design details, to take into account abutment, fixing and air seal details.

"Due to the length of the roof sheets involved and the lack of site access, Ash and Lacy also assisted in arranging for the site rolling of the AshZip™ sheets, which helped during installation of the sheets on site.

"Regular site inspections by Ash and Lacy technical staff during the course of the installation period  assisted in confirming that the roof construction was installed to their high standards."
