Ash & Lacy supply complete package for Birmingham re-development project

Ash & Lacy have supplied a complete roofing package as part of a re-development programme undertaken by Optima Community Association on the Benmore Estate in Birmingham. 500 square metres of 0.9mm Ashzip 400 in aluminium with a plain mill stucco finish was selected and installed by Halesowen Fabricators to create a mono pitch standing seam roof on the new Murrell Close 3-storey residential building. Designed by PRP Architects, the cold roof construction was created by fixing the Ashzip halters directly to the purlins and then the Ashzip top sheet to create a non-combustible roof construction. To complete the package and provide the visually important perimeter detailing a range of Ashfab flashings were also supplied which included striking feature bullnose flashings in silver powder-coated aluminium together with galvanised gutters and Ashfix fasteners & accessories. As all products were supplied from a single source, compatibility was ensured between the individual components.

Ashzip is available in aluminium, steel, stainless steel and copper in cover widths of 300mm and 400mm. Two mobile containerised roll-formers provide nationwide coverage and offer the option of manufacture in a factory environment or on site (depending on sheet lengths required and site access). Weighing just 11 tonnes the roll-formers can be suspended by crane for portable eaves level rolling. Ashzip standing seam roofing sheets will self-curve to a radius of between 40-55 metres depending on material, gauge and profile width.

To achieve convex and concave curves to tighter radii, sheets can be pre-curved on-site, or in a factory environment using mobile curving machines. To complete the range of options Ashzip can be taper roll formed to create a radial roof on plan and provide an attractive architectural feature.

Where Ashzip differs from other standing seam roofing systems is in the philosophy adopted by Ash & Lacy, which is based on offering a total roof envelope solution from a single source. This recognises that the importance of effective perimeter detailing is often overlooked, when it is in fact as critical as the roof and wall cladding system itself. Badly designed and installed details can have a major impact on the overall performance of a building and can seriously affect the aesthetic properties both on a short and long-term basis. The Ashfab range of specialist fabrications offers an extensive range of bespoke products from architectural and rainscreen cladding panels to louvers, flashings and rainwater systems. Supported by a specialist design and project co-ordination team, all products are produced by skilled fabricators and are available nationwide from three strategically positioned depots to ensure the fastest turnaround and delivery times possible.

Commenting on the selection of a\total Ash & Lacy package Chris Collett of Halesowen Fabricators said:

"We regularly use Ash & Lacy products as they offer consistently good levels of quality at competitive prices. For this particular project we needed a standing seam roofing system so it made sense to buy the total roofing package from a single source. Not only does this offer a convenient way of purchasing but also gives the added peace of mind that compatibility is ensured between the individual components".
