Cladding is a science for Ash & Lacy
The Ashtech Rainscreen Cladding System from Ash & Lacy is helping to achieve a high-tech appearance for one of Scotland’s newest and most prestigious science parks.
The West of Scotland Science Park is beautifully landscaped across a 61.5 acre site, 3 miles north-west of Glasgow City Centre. Divided into two campuses - Kelvin and Todd – the park is now home to around 30 companies, predominantly within the research and development sectors including optoelectronics, computer software, biotechnology and drug discovery. To reflect this, the buildings had to be of a high standard, aesthetically creative, modern and hi-tech.
Ash & Lacy were selected by Glasgow based roofing contractor, Thomas M Devon & Co, for their Ashtech system, having demonstrated years of experience in producing superior quality specialist fabrications within the roofing and cladding market. 700m2 of Ashtech ACM Rainscreen Cladding in smoke silver (RAL9007), along with arranged horizontal panels, were fabricated for several of the buildings on the 40,000 sq.ft long Kelvin Campus.
Colin Devon, MD of Thomas M Devon & Co, commented: "For many years we have used Ash & Lacy flashings and fixings, but this is the first time we have used the Ashtech Rainscreen Cladding system. I liked the look of the samples, the prices represented good value in comparison to competitor systems and the panels were easy to install. I was delighted with the end result, so much so that we are planning to feature the project in our company brochure, and I will certainly consider using the system in future projects."
The Ashtech Rainscreen Cladding system allows for crisp, clean lines that given an impression of continuity. Through the flexibility of aluminium and the expertise of their in-house design team, Ash & Lacy can offer architects and specifiers a range of interesting designs, using the latest in CNC Technology.
The park was developed by Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, in alliance with the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, to create a support community for technology companies making accessible fully equipped facilities covering technical, business, and leisure, all in one location.
